We had so much fun last year seeing people smile during our Random Acts of Christmas Kindness, we're going to do it again! We've timed some of our RACKs with other things happening in our community too - so follow us on Facebook or Twitter to be a part of the action and we'll give you ideas throughout the month for the various activities we have randomly planned as we countdown to Christmas with Random Acts of Kindness this December. We've included a downloadable version of our calendar below as well.

Remember back in the day, when kids made posters to inform their classmates and neighbours about things? Nowadays in the City of Peterborough one child's idea to spread the word about Paediatric Cancer becomes a lot more than a poster.
This summer we were blessed to have had 7 wonderfully talented kids volunteer to help with a campaign idea Kennedy came up with. Coming together to sing "Heal the World" and provide background music for a video Kennedy wanted to create for this year's campaign. Aged 9 to 15, from different schools in the area, each child spent the better part of the summer learning the music with their dedicated vocal teacher, Melody Thomas. While Kennedy collected facts and information about Paediatric Cancer. Singing together for the first time September 9th, we recorded and filmed the music for the video. In honour of Childhood Cancer Awareness month and the 10,000 children in Canada living with Cancer, we are please to share with you the release of "Reaching for a Cure".
A big thank you to our friends with "Neighbours of the Old West End" magazine in Peterborough for this wonderful article. We are so thankful for all the support from the Peterborough community, it is going to be a fantastic year for Wind Wishes !
The girls started early this year with their ornaments picked out and supplies ordered before the end of the school year. Its hard to believe that Wind Wishes is entering its 5th year.
Starting early has led to even more exciting news, with a chance meeting in July resulting in the first ornament of the year heading home to Saudi Arabia. This brings Wind Wishes' country count to 6 and continents to 3 (that we are aware of)! What an accomplishment in spreading information about childhood cancer around the world, None of this would have been possible without the continued support of so many family and friends. Which brings us to our new town! That's right thanks to Aunty Bev, Wind Wishes ornaments are now available (as of August 1st) at Charlie D's in Barry's Bay. A super pit stop on summer travels with great food and more. Fill a sunny summer or fall afternoon with a trip to Charlie D's! Say "hi" to Charlie D and Bev from us and purchase your very own 2016 Wind Wishes Ornament. Have you ever asked a 5 year old why they did something? Did you get more than a shrug of the shoulders or a simple "I Don't Know"? That's pretty much what Kennedy has said anytime anyone has asked her why she started Wind Wishes. That is until this year...
"It makes me feel very happy to feel like I am helping kids with cancer in our community and other kids in Canada. Other kids live with cancer every day and I want them to be healthy like me and not have to worry about being sick. There are a lot of bad things in the world but if I can do one thing to make things better, the world might be a better place." - Kennedy, age 9 A few days from Christmas and all through our home,
Are clippings of felt as well as bits of foam. Our stockings are hung on our staircase with care, With Wind Wish's ornaments sparkling there. Kennedy is nestled all snug in her bed, While visions of ornaments dance in her head. Her sister is sleeping wearing her cap, Dad and the puppy settle down for a nap. When all I can think of is how thankful we are, For all the support from near and a far. It all started with our daughter's dream, Yet so many others are now on her Wind Wishes team. The moon on the grass where there really should be snow, Is something we take for granted as we all grow. All of our children should have the chance to see, Every sunrise and sunset to eternity. For all children fighting cancer and feeling sick, We wish for you good health and the spirit of St. Nick. May new research and love bring a cure for all cancer. May Wind Wishes help them find the right answer. As we come to the end of this year's campaign, Know that your wishes are never in vain. Wishes will allow your dreams to take flight. "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-night! We have experienced so much kindness since Kennedy started her Wind Wishes campaign four years ago, we thought we'd have some fun this year and invite you to join along with us.
We came across the Random Acts of Christmas Kindness Advent Calendar on www.coffeecupsandcrayons.com and thought we'd challenge all our supporters to join us as we countdown to Christmas. You are welcome to use the calendar below or create your own with your family. Each day do something special for someone else in the world and bring some Christmas cheer to your community. Pretty fitting that this begins on #GivingTuesday as well this year! Feel free to share your RACKs with us on facebook or twitter - use the #WindWishesRACKs to join the fun. RACKs can be done secretly or you can let people know what you're doing by leaving one of these cards. This is the fourth year that the Bank of Montreal in Peterborough's Portage Place mall has offered to sell Kennedy's ornaments for her at their branch. It has been a real bonus to Kennedy's campaign each year and we are happy to share that the ornaments are there and ready for purchase now. Historically the ornaments have gone pretty fast there, so be sure to stop in and get yours soon.
The Bank is open Monday - Thursday 9:30-4:30, Friday 9:30-5:00 and Saturdays 9:30-1:00. Kennedy and I spent the day at Play Cafe today at their wonderful Holiday Makers Market. What a fabulous new business in Peterborough that is completely family centred. If you get a chance, please check out their website at playcafepeterborough.com and see all the great activities taking place in the coming months. A big shout out to the St. Catherine Elementary School community for supporting Kennedy's sales today. Another 53 ornaments sold today!
